 History of Pant-y-Bugail.

`Pant-y-Bugail` means `Shepherds Hollow`. The present owners purchased this property in 2003. The main large building was originally a farmhouse and the original stone foundations proves the existence of the farmhouse is to be found in the stonework in the apartment lounge/kitchen, which was previously in use as part of the main house.

Crow`s nest cottage is extremely old and was built by a quarry-man who lived in the farmhouse; every time he got the chance, he brought back some stone and eventually, after some years, the cottage was built. One man who lived here was a maker of grandfather clocks. Unfortunately, after some time, the cottage became neglected and the old man lived in the one side and kept animals in the other half.

Many years later the present owner decided to restore `Crow`s Nest` Cottage and in the latter half of 2004, work finally began. Restoration included new floors, a new roof, complete hacking -out and re`pointing of all walls, both inside and out. A final coat of masonry paint was added to restore the Welsh, natural cottage look. Due to the new floors being much higher, the massive lintle above the picture window had to be lifted higher by a JCB. and the remaining lintle next to it also had to be moved. All in all, a lot of work, `harsh words` and frustration went into the renovation but it was all worth it as it should still be standing many years from now.

The beautiful old fashioned quarry tiles used in the cottage were collected from the factory at Rhuabon , near Wrexham; they took a month to lay and cut. The previous owner`s huge Bullmastif dog, `Muffin`, used to sleep in straw in what is now the beautiful new bathroom....

The large conservatory has always been a lovely feature of the apartment and the tiles are old fashioned but good quality . The cottage was named `Crow`s Nest` due to two factors, firstly, there was a crow`s nest in the chimney pot and secondly, the owner likes all things maritime, being so close to the sea and crow`s nest is of course also the name for a boat`s look out.

In short, this area is full of history and any guests receive a hearty welcome and a cup of tea and piece of home made `bara-brith` buttered tea cake to help them over their long journeys. There is never a shortage of places to go or things to do and if you just want to relax, the property is not by a any noisy main road and has lots of space for safe car parking.
