Crows Nest Cottage

The Locality "Things to do, places to see..."

`Crow`s nest` cottage is located in the Tynygongl area and the nearest town is the seaside town of Benllech, about 1-1.5 miles away. There is a smaller beach situated about 1 mile away at Traeth Bychan and there is a cafe here which also sells newspapers; there are plenty of coastal walks from here or most places in Anglesey.

Benllech boasts a beautiful beach and you can walk right along the sands to Red Wharfe Bay, about 1-1.5 miles. At Benllech, you can rest up and admire the scenery whilst parked on the front; there are some lovely cafes and restaurants here, also.

For eating out, you are spoilt for choice as there are so many quality places to choose from. If you like Chinese or Indian, Benllech has them both, as does Menai- the `Jade-Village` is to be recommended. There is also a seafood restaurant on the island and countless other eating places where you not only get a nice meal but brilliant scenery.

At Red Wharfe Bay, you are spoilt for choice for eating out. There is the `Old Boat House` cafe, which overlooks the bay. If you want to celebrate a special occasion, there is the `a la carte restaurant upstairs or the beautiful cafe downstairs, where there is a maritime theme throughout. The `Ship Inn` is a very short walk away; it is very quaint and has a log fire, serves a good pint and the food is excellent, with duck, sea bass etc. on the menu.

The nearest pubs are the `Parciau Arms` or the `California Arms`, both about 1 mile away, they both provide meals. For shopping, there is a late night shop and many others in Benllech. Bangor and Llangefni are not far away by car and you travel over the old `Telford Bridge` to get there, the scenery down on Menai-straits is stunning.

If you enjoy walking down country lanes or along coastal paths, this is a brilliant area for it. Locally, there are too many walks to mention but we can advise. Not far away is the town of Beaumaris- there is a pier and the town is full of charm. Just down the road is `Puffin Island`, where you can see boats fishing for sea bass and there is also a Roman Dovecot and the remains of a monastery; there is cafe at the point.

The `South Stack` is brilliant for bird watching and there is a viewing tower there which provides binoculars and telescopes. You should only attempt the Lighthouse walk if you have a head for heights! Again, a nice cafe...

There are a host of things to keep children happy here. There is the `Sea Zoo` and `Pili Butterfly Palas`, with countless `bucket and spade` beaches. We recommend `Plas-Newydd`, the Earl of Anglesey's home, or Penrhyn Castle. If you like boat trips, Beaumaris to Puffin Island is fantastic, or you can sail along Menai Straits from Plas Newydd. If it's fishing you want, there are several boats that go out from Amlwch and suit all levels of skill- deep sea fishing off wrecks included.

And if you fancy why not visit Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, which is a local Welsh town that translates as "The church of St. Mary in the hollow of white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St. Tysilio's of the red cave".  As it’s a bit of a mouthful so we call it Llanfair PG or Llanfairpwll, but its well worth a visit.

On the mainland, and not too far away, there is Snowdon, the highest mountain in and England and Wales.  Snowdon rates amongst the most beautiful mountains in the world and if you don’t feel brave enough to walk up it, you can always sit back and relax and ride to the summit on the train.

And don’t forget if you fancy a day trip to Ireland, the port of Holyhead isn’t too far away.  On the fast ferry you could be there in two hours, sipping a real pint of Guinness or indulging in some fine Irish hospitality.

Come and stay at Crows Nest Cottage, you will never get bored here, and if it's just relaxation you want, this place is ideal and you'll always be made welcome.  (For more information please don’t hesitate to contact us)
